Empty drip tray during descaling process

Empty drip tray appears on the coffee machine display during the descaling process even though the drip tray has already been emptied several times.

Too much water was added for the descaling process.

Please note that you must not add more than 0.5 L of water into the water container to dissolve the descaler. Otherwise, the descaling solution will be too thin and limescale deposits may form on the appliance. In addition, faults may occur if the descaler solution flowing through the appliance is not measured properly.

The drip tray contacts (metal disks) are soiled, e.g., with coffee residues. This can cause faults when it comes to detecting the fill level.

Clean the contacts, proceeding as follows:

  • Pulling out | Drip tray | Coffee machine
  • Push the central spout up as far as it will go.

  • Pull the drip tray and the grounds container out of the coffee machine carefully.

  • Emptying | Drip tray and grounds container | Coffee machine
  • Empty the drip tray into the sink.

  • Empty the grounds container into the organic waste bin or compost.

  • If necessary, clean the grounds container with water and a drop of liquid dish soap.

  • Cleaning and drying | Drip tray and contacts | Coffee machine
  • Clean the drip tray using a mild solution of warm water and liquid dish soap.

  • Make sure that the drip tray contacts (metal disks) are clean and dry.

The contacts (metal disks) will not be able to detect that the drip tray is full if they are damp or dirty.

  • Make sure to clean particularly thoroughly between the contacts at the rear of the drip tray.

  • Dry the drip tray and the contacts well.

  • Pushing in | Drip tray and grounds container | Coffee machine
  • Insert the grounds container into the drip tray.

  • Push the drip tray back into the coffee machine.
